Overview
If your firm bought CE courses for your team, you have a seat waiting rather than a purchase of your own. This article is for the learner claiming that seat. If you are the person who bought the seats, see Group Orders and Seat Managers instead.
How to Claim Your Seat
Seats are claimed through a sign-up link that goes to whoever placed the order — usually your firm's Seat Manager, office manager, or compliance contact. It does not arrive from us directly unless they forward it to you.
Get the sign-up link from the person at your firm who placed the order
Open the link and create your Adviser CE account, or sign in if you already have one
Your assigned course or bundle appears on your dashboard
Note: buying seats does not enroll the buyer. If your Seat Manager also intends to take the course, they claim a seat through the same link like everyone else.
Before You Start the Course
Whether your firm paid or you did, the CE credit is reported under your personal details. Take a minute before starting:
Your first name, last name, and personal CRD number must match your FINRA record exactly — use your personal CRD, never the firm's. A mismatch means FINRA rejects the completion.
If you hold a CFP® certification, add your CFP ID now. It must be on your profile at the time you complete a course for the hours to be filed with the CFP Board, and adding it later does not apply retroactively.
Update both under My Account. See Fixing a Name or CRD Mismatch.
Common Situations
I never received a link
The link goes to the purchaser, not to each learner. Ask whoever arranged the CE at your firm to forward it. If they have lost it, they can retrieve it from their Seat Manager Dashboard, or contact us.
I already have an Adviser CE account from a previous year
Use it. Open the sign-up link and sign in with your existing account rather than creating a new one, so all of your completions and certificates stay in one place. If you accidentally create a second account, contact us before doing any coursework — see Signing In: Passwords, Google Sign-In, and Duplicate Accounts.
I was assigned the wrong bundle
Ethics & Professional Responsibility and Products & Practices are separate halves of the annual requirement, and completed courses are not refundable. Check FinPro to confirm which half you actually owe before starting, and tell your Seat Manager if the assignment is wrong. See Choosing the Right CE Bundle.
Can my Seat Manager see my progress?
Yes. Seat Managers can see seat usage and learner enrollment and activity for the order they placed. They cannot take the course for you — CE must be completed personally under your own login.
