Payment Declined or Not Going Through

What to do when a payment will not complete, and what to do if you were charged but do not have access to the course.

Written by Vladimir Kouznetsov, EA, CFP®

Overview

This article covers a payment that will not complete at checkout, and the separate case where money left your account but the course did not appear.

If you were charged and do not have the course, do not buy it again — contact us. See I Was Charged but Do Not Have the Course below.

Do not keep retrying the same card. Repeated failed attempts make your bank more likely to block the card outright, which turns a small problem into a larger one.

Start With These Three

Most declines are one of these, and all three are quick to check:

  • Your billing address and ZIP or postal code must match the card exactly. A single character different from what your bank has on file is enough to decline the payment. This is the most common cause by a wide margin.

  • Turn off browser autofill and type your details in manually. Autofill often inserts an old address or a card you have since replaced, and it does it invisibly.

  • Complete the verification step if your bank shows one. Many cards require an extra confirmation — a popup, a text message, or an approval in your banking app. If that window is blocked by a popup blocker, or closed before you finish, the payment fails with no useful error.

If It Still Will Not Go Through

  • Contact your card issuer. Banks routinely flag unfamiliar or repeated online charges. They can usually authorise it in seconds. This is worth doing early, because the decision is theirs — see below for why we cannot see the reason.

  • Try a different payment method. You can pay by credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Cash App Pay, or Link. See Payment Methods We Accept.

  • Try a private or incognito window, or a different browser. This bypasses stale saved data and disables most extensions in one step. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can interfere with the checkout form.

I Was Charged but Do Not Have the Course

Contact us at [email protected] — do not purchase it again. Buying a second time is not the fix, and it creates a duplicate purchase to sort out afterwards.

Include your order number if you have one, plus the date and amount of the charge. We can either restore your access or refund the charge, whichever is appropriate.

The same applies if you see two charges for one purchase. Contact us with both and we will resolve it.

A failed attempt can also leave a temporary authorisation on your statement. These are not completed charges and usually clear on their own within a few business days. If one does not clear, send us the date and amount and we will look into it.

Who Processes Your Payment

All payments are processed by Stripe, and Adviser CE never receives or stores your card details.

This is also why, when a card is declined, we cannot tell you why. The decision is made by your bank or card issuer, and the reason stays with them — we only see that the attempt failed. Your issuer can tell you in a phone call what we cannot look up at all.

Still Stuck?

Contact us at [email protected] and include:

  • The course or bundle you are trying to buy

  • The payment method you are using

  • The exact error message you see, if any

  • Whether you were charged — and if so, the date and amount

That last point matters most: it tells us immediately whether this is a checkout problem or a money-back problem, and they are handled differently.
